ABOUT Dan Root is an award winning freelance commercial and editorial photographer based in Portland, OR. His specialty is capturing transitional moments, portrait moments, product moments, and action moments, in and around the world of sports and sports culture. His passion is always to be in the midst of the action, at the epicenter of the authentic moment. Dan's unique viewpoint for advertising is the direct result of his background of being a former photojournalist, trained to “get the shot in any circumstance” no matter what. He captures what is real and really happening. It can be at an event full of individuals he has never met before or on a set of cast talent - his approach does not waiver. He is there, on set, ever watchful, to capture those truly spontaneous and artful moments that will create a wealth of imagery from each and every shoot he does. His portrait work stems from the same place – find the individuals from the crowd that he asks to sit for a brief time in front of his camera, away from the action, and give him their attention and gaze for a few special moments, that will result in an iconic image of the individual. He feels very fortunate that he has been asked to apply his methodology and visual approach to projects for stellar brands, like adidas, Nike, Reebok, GNC, Merrell, Brooks, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Manchester United. In addition, the editorial assignments that he receives are from a variety of great publications that continue to provide a wealth of new opportunities that keeps his approach tight and spot on. He finds true joy in collaborating with his clients, talented crew, and subjects, to create the best and most authentic imagery that can be captured.
